Take Your Fifth Wheel Camper To Roswell, New Mexico

It may not be spring yet, but spring fever has already hit our household. A few weeks ago, I turned to my husband and said, “Let’s go on a road trip.” After a bit of discussion, we decided to head for New Mexico and see Roswell. It didn’t take us very long to start getting excited. Before we knew what was happening, we were packing up our fifth wheel camper and hitting the road.

Area 51 in Roswell, New
Diehard ufologist will know that Area 51 is not located in Roswell but in Nevada. The real diehard fans will know that the UFO did not crash in Roswell at all. Instead it crashed 75 miles west on the Brazel ranch. However, Roswell is the hub of the UFO phenomenon.

For anyone wanting to pack up their fifth wheel and head to Roswell, you can expect plenty of RV sites available. Unless, of course, you travel to Roswell during the 4th of July weekend. Then the place is full of alien hunters and Roswell enthusiasts. Every year, they have a convention so reservations, even in RV parks, are required.

There are two big attractions in Roswell, the UFO museum and Area 51. Both are great for picture taking. The alien autopsy is a must see and well worth the admission fee.

Kids or Not Visit McDonalds
Going along the UFO theme, the McDonalds in Roswell is the only UFO McDonalds in the world. We unhitched our fifth wheel and drove our truck into town. I wish I would have thought to check out the parking lot to see if it was RV friendly. However, I did not so I can’t help my RV friends on this one.

Nearby Attraction: Carlsbad Caverns
A road trip is not much of a road trip if you only go to one place. Therefore, checking out nearby attractions is something we always do. Since we live in Texas, we decided to take a different route home. In doing so, we had the opportunity to stop in a couple of more places.

Just a little over an hour away from Roswell lives Carlsbad. In case you did not know, Carlsbad is famous for the very large and beautiful Carlsbad Caverns. Just outside the caverns are one hotel and one RV park. If you can’t stay there, then you must drive thirty minutes to nearby Carlsbad. The caverns are so huge that we spent an extra night there. (Tickets are good for three days and are cheaper for those over 62.)

Of course, on the drive home we stopped and saw some more things. There was the meteor crater and World’s Largest Jackrabbit in Odessa and the Pecos Museum.

The whole trip reminded me of why we bought the fifth wheel camper in the first place. We simply love the freedom of traveling the open road.
